How to Setup Your Printer to Make Multiple Copies

You are tired of changing the property settings of your printer. Your job, though, needs you to print different types of documents quite often. How would you avoid the problem so that you don’t need to customize your printer each time you print a document? For this, you would require to create multiple copies of the same printer and printers. Making multiple copies of the same printer means creating more than one installation of the same hardware printer device on your computer.

The process is simple! Follow these steps to setup your printer to create multiple copies:

First, visit Control Panel and double-click Printers and Faxes icon to open the window. When the window appears, click File on the menu bar and select Add Printer. The Add Printer Wizard appears, and it will guide you to installing a connected printer device on your computer, so that you can start using it. You can create another copy of the same printer through this wizard, much in the same way you installed the first copy of the printer. As you end up with the process, you have two copies of the same printer and you can see both of them in your Printers and Faxes window.

You can set different properties for both the printer and printers copies. Let us consider that the printing jobs you need to do daily, want you to switch most commonly between colored printing and black & white printing. You can rename the two copies of the printer in your Printers and Faxes windows accordingly, say as Black & White Printer and Color Printer. Now change the properties of the two printers accordingly. You may also change other properties of the printers, such as Print Quality, Copy Number, Print Order, and so on.

When you open a document and give the print command, the Print prompt box opens. There is a list menu ‘Name’, which allows you to select the printer from the available list. Suppose you want color printing, just select “Printers for Color Printing” from this list menu and print okay. The single selection will include everything you have customized for the copy of the printer – print quality, copy number, print order. You can create any number of copies of a printer in the same way. However, if you create multiple copies, make sure to name them according to their tasks, so that you don’t confuse with them later.
